Pre-Authorization Hold for Service Costs

JusticeDirect Law Firm LLC may place a pre-authorization hold on your payment method before certain services are delivered to ensure a smooth and timely service experience.

What is a Pre-Authorization Hold?

A pre-authorization hold is a temporary hold on funds on your card or other payment method. This is not an automatic charge. It simply confirms that sufficient funds are available to cover anticipated service costs.

Why and When Do We Place a Hold?

During the eviction process, service costs may arise at different stages. There are three steps where you may incur an additional service fee and where we place a hold on your card or other payment method:

  • Notice Serving: Serving an Eviction Notice to your tenant.
  • Complaint Filing and Serving: Filing your Eviction Complaint with the court and serving it on the tenant.
  • Writ of Execution: Filing a Writ of Execution with the court, if needed.

A pre-authorization hold allows us to:

  • Begin service without delay.
  • Avoid repeated payment requests.
  • Ensure accurate and timely billing upon completion of services.

How Much is the Hold?

The hold amount is typically an estimate of the expected service costs. The final charge amount may be lower than the hold amount, depending on the services provided.

The hold amounts include:

  • $150 to serve the Eviction Notice,
  • $350 to file and serve the Eviction Complaint, and
  • $200 to file a Writ of Execution with the court.

When Is the Final Charge Made?

Once the service is completed and we receive an invoice from the process server or court runner, your payment method on file will be charged for the final service amount owed. If the final service amount is less than the hold, you will be charged only the actual invoiced amount. If the final service amount exceeds the hold, we will contact you before charging your payment method for the final amount.

How Long Does the Hold Remain on My Card?

The hold remains in effect for up to seven (7) days. If the service is completed and invoiced within that period, we will charge the payment method on file for the final service amount. If the hold expires after seven (7) days, we retain the right to charge the card on file. If the charge is declined, we will contact you to request an alternative payment method.
